Project
Project Goal
The short term goal of the ER/Box project is to create a Compiere compatible system bundled with an open source Java database that is suitable for demo, prototyping and developement purposes. Depending on the level of success in reaching this goal more ambitious plans might be devised.
Project Organization
All project activity is organized via the facilities provided by SourceForge. The following sections give a short description on how these services are used within the ER/Box project.
Project Summary
The summary page for the project on SourceForge can be found here.
Project News
News related to the project will be posted to the SourceForge bulletin board. They are additionally available as an RSS feed which is also used to render a news page on this website.
Documentation
Documentation will be put up on this website; see tab Documentation.
Communication
Project communication takes place in the forums. For now only one forum, ER/Box Discussion, has been created. Usage will show if separate forums for specific topics are required.
Tracker
Issues are stored in the SourceForge Tracker facility. Since the primary focus is on stabilizing the product a single bug tracker will suffice for the start.
Download
Binary releases are made available in the ER/Box package of the SourceForge Files section. When reporting bugs or problems please always refer to the latest release.
On Windows platforms please use the files with a .zip-extion while on Unix/Linux please choose the files with a .tar.gz-extension.
Source Code
The source code will be provided as a separate file with a filename prefix of erbox_Src_. Up to now development has been done using an inhouse CVS server; this proved essential in a number of situations when backups had to be restored quickly. Because of this the SourceForge CVS service will likely not be used in the near future.
Participation / Contribution
The ER/Box project depends on an active community! At this stage the best way to participate or contribute is to test the application, discuss problems in the forum(s) or file them in the bug tracker. Other kinds of contributions, e.g. specs or patches, are very welcome, too, but please discuss any potential code submission in the forum(s) prior to actually creating it.
Donations
Donations are one of the ways to show your support for the project. They
certainly have an impact on the motivation of the developer(s) to spend some additional
hours on ER/Box.
Another good reason to donate might arise when ER/Box begins to present some "real" value
to you or your business, either privately or in your daily job; monetary contributions in the form of
donations as a way to give back would surely be well received.
